Abstract

PSYCHOMETRIC PROPERTIES OF THE MANDARIN TRANSLATION OF BRIEF CORE SCHEMA SCALE (BCSS-C)

Author(s): Renee Tan Huey Jing

Brief Core Schema Scale (BCSS) is self-rated scale designed to assess perception of patients about themselves and other people. Aim: This is a validation study of the Mandarin translation of Brief Core Schema Scale. Method: The original scale was translated to Mandarin (BCSS-C) via forward and backward translation process. The final product (BCSS-C) was pilot tested on 30 participants. The psychometric properties of BCSS-C was further assessed in a validation study done on clinical (N=226) and non-clinical sample (N=89). Results: The results of the study showed that BCSS-C has good internal consistency (Cronbach’s α=0.96) while also exhibiting good discriminant validity. Confirmatory factor analysis supported the 4 factor model. Conclusion: In conclusion, BCSS-C is reliable and valid.
